PsyPAG are pleased to announce our new annual award that recognises outstanding doctoral supervision. Submissions are invited for all areas of Psychology, and all forms of doctorate degrees (e.g. PhD, Dclin.psy). The aim of the award is to provide recognition of outstanding supervision and pastoral care. To nominate your supervisor, you must be at least 18 months (or 36 months if part-time student) into your studies and no more than 2 years beyond graduation. The winner of the outstanding doctoral supervisor award will receive a certificate recognising their achievements and a £20 book token. The winner and their nominee will also be invited to write an article for the PsyPAG Quarterly.
The award will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Pastoral support e.g. Are they a good listener/approachable? Do they provide useful advice and appropriate emotional support?
- Academic support e.g. Do they demonstrate a sharing and co-creation of knowledge? Do they encourage the attendance of conferences and the submission of research papers?
- Career development opportunities e.g. Do they demonstrate an interest in furthering student’s careers and their development as new researchers?
- Transferable skills development e.g. Do they encourage the development of (or even teach) transferable skills?
You will be asked to provide:
- your full contact details;
- your supervisor’s contact details;
- a 500 word nomination statement detailing why you feel your supervisor meets the criteria of outstanding supervisor. This statement must include specifically how your supervisor has facilitated your doctoral journey and examples of how your supervisor has contributed to your development along the criteria outlined above; and,
- a supporting statement from the head of department or another colleague (500 words maximum).
