Doctoral Research Student 12th European Congress of Psychology Bursary Competition
To support UK doctoral researchers who wish to present their work at the 12th European Congress of Psychology 2011 the Research Board is offering three £500 bursaries. The Congress is being held in Istanbul, Turkey, 4-8th July 2011 and is organised under the auspices of the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA). For further details see the Congress website (http://www.ecp2011.org/). The bursaries will cover Congress registration fees and contribute towards travel and accommodation costs.
Application Process: the applicant must
- be a postgraduate student registered for a doctoral degree in psychology at a UK university (at the time of application).
- have submitted an oral presentation or poster abstract (either as sole or multiple author) to the 12th European Congress of Psychology.
- submit an application form, CV and an abstract of their proposed oral presentation or poster.
- provide a short statement of recommendation from their Head of Department.
The closing date for applications is 30 November 2010.

BPS Division of Sport & Exercise Psychology PhD Award
The BPS Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology has established an annual prize to be awarded to the PhD student from a University in the United Kingdom whose thesis is regarded to be an exceptional, innovative contribution to knowledge in the field. Research on any aspect of sport and exercise psychology is eligible. The winner will receive £250 and be invited to deliver a presentation based on their thesis at the annual conference. The winner will also be invited to submit an article for publication in Sport and Exercise Psychology Review. Such an article would be subject to the normal review process.

National Psychology Postgraduate Teaching Award
The PGwT and PsyPAG offer a joint teaching award to recognise a postgraduate psychology student who has made a significant impact through teaching.
Awards are open to all psychology postgraduates who teach on undergraduate, postgraduate, or continuing education courses in UK institutions of higher or further education. The recipient will be awarded £250 and will have their conference attendance sponsored at PLAT or psyPAG. A call for 2011 nominations will be announced here in the winter of 2010.
- 2010 Winner Mandy Yilmaz
Congratulations to Mandy Yilmaz, of the University of Dundee who received the award this year. Involving undergraduates in her dissertation research helped to develop the teaching and research link for many students and led the School of Psychology to develop a new research assistantship scheme modelled on Mandy’s approach.

Outstanding Doctoral Research Award
This annual award recognises outstanding contributions to psychological knowledge by postgraduate research students whilst carrying out research for their doctoral degrees in psychology. A candidate may only be nominated for the award if their doctoral degree was awarded no longer than three years ago. The deadline for this year’s nominations is November 26th 2010; please see the webpage for more details.
Postgraduate Study Visits Scheme
The scheme provides grants to enable research students who are registered for a doctoral degree at a UK university to undertake a study visit to another institution for a minimum of two weeks, to acquire skills directly relevant to their research training above and beyond that required for the completion of the doctoral degree. BPS/POST Postgraduate Award
The Award provides an opportunity for a postgraduate psychologist to be seconded to the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) to assist in providing objective briefing material for MPs and Peers on a psychological topic.
