Dr David Marchant

The committee are very happy to welcome back former PsyPAG committee member, Dr. David Marchant. David is currently a senior lecturer in sport and exercise psychology at Edge Hill University, and is a founder member of the British Psychological Society's Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology committee. While his academic interests span the field of human performance and exercise psychology, the concentration of his research has been on the influence of attentional focus on movement execution and on learning in sport, exercise and rehabilitative settings.

David has an extensive portfolio of publications in journals such as Athletic Insight, Sport and Exercise Psychology Review, International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology or Sports Medicine, and has received great acclaim following the publication of a study in which David's research team demonstrated how thinking about your muscles while exercising can increase your muscle activity. In consideration of the potential implications of these findings for exercise and injury-rehabilitation, this research was hailed as 'a breakthrough in sports research'.
