Sara Nicole Gardener

Hello, I’m Sara-Nicole and I am a postgraduate student at Birkbeck, University of London. I completed my BSc (Hons) in Psychology with Professional Development and then went on to study an MSc in War and Psychiatry, both in London. I then moved up North to study an MA in Research Methods, Developmental Psychopathology. Whilst at Durham for my MA, I was the Vice President and Welfare Officer of my College Middle Common Room, so was responsible for helping postgraduate students with all manner of welfare-related issues. I am currently studying Psychodynamic Practice and broadening my knowledge of different perspectives and modalities relating to the understanding and treatment of trauma.
My varied interests are around combat trauma, service families (both during and after military service), refugee mental health, child psychology, including developmental trauma, and addiction. Whilst studying at postgraduate level, I joined the University Officers’ Training Corps as an Officer Cadet and am currently training with the ULOTC.
I’m excited to represent the Crisis, Disaster and Trauma Psychology Section, which was formed in 2013 to provide its members with a central hub where issues of psychological trauma can be explored, research and evidence-based treatments can be examined, and ongoing standards of best practice can be established.
